Colorado may be known for its great natural beauty and wide open spaces, but it is less known for the quality of its beaches – which is a pity seeing at they are some of the most attractive in the United States. In fact Denver has some extremely attractive beaches that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

You’re not going to get the ocean fresh air, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot have a great time out in the fresh air and enjoy the cool refreshing feeling of some great fresh water fun.

Here are some of the best choices for a day at the beach in Denver.

1. Aurora Reservoir.

Only a hop skip and a jump from Denver this venue boasts some incredible sandy beaches and clean, fresh waters.As a bonus this is a no go area for motorized watercraft so everyone can enjoy their day out in peace and quiet. But the lack of powered craft doesn’t mean that there isn’t an opportunity to enjoy things like SCUBA diving and fishing – and of course swimming to help keep cool on those hot summer days. There’s also an 8 mile hike around the reservoir which offers some spectacular views.

2.Cherry Creek State Park.

Another fantastic venue that is only a very short drive from Denver this is a great place to sit and unwind with the family. The perfect spot for a picnic or a bike ride it also offers grill facility to get you in the mood for that perfect burger. Sandy beaches for swimming and camping facilities mean that it offers the perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

3. Jackson Lake State Park.

This is one of the best land locked beaches in the United States. Sandy beaches and huge opportunities for fun mean that this remains one of the best places to relax and escape from the city. Fishing, boating and 260 camping sites mean that there’s plenty of room for fun both on the water and off. Fantastic picnic sites also mean that it’s the perfect venue for a day trip.

4. Confluence Park.

For those who want a taste of the beach but want to stay in Denver this is a great spot. It’s a small sandy beach that can be found where Cherry Creek and the South Platte River meet. Cool off and spend the day within site of the high rises – and still enjoy great water based fun.
